Feeling: Exhausted

A conversation with one of the senior developers about how development changes when it’s heavily AI driven (from memory, so not an exact quote).

C: Working with AI so much on that feature was really…

Me: Intense?

C: Yeah. It’s much more exhausting than development used to be.

Me: Why do you think that is?

C: I think that ultimately you realise that you have become the bottleneck. Your ability to take in and understand the information that the AI is feeding to you. There are just so many more decisions you need to take per minute, and the whole time you know that you’re the bottleneck. It’s also something that makes me resentful of less capable models - because they give you lots of information, but it’s often bad and has a huge negative impact on the most precious resource - your own attention.
